WHY So Many Piano Beginners' Passion to Play Music Was Demotivated?

Let's see how beginners usually learn to play piano with the Common or Traditional Piano Lessons.

BEFORE YOU CAN PLAY A PIECE OF MUSIC...

You got to learn the following long list of so-called "BASICS".

First of all, you'll learn how to sit at the piano.

You'll learn how to posture your body, upper arm, elbow, lower arm, wrist, hand and fingers.

You'll also learn to number all your 10 fingers.

Then you'll learn how to recognize the keyboard.

You'll learn the names of the white keys.

You'll learn what's Treble clef

You'll learn what's Bass clef.

You'll learn the 5 lines called music staff.

You'll learn what are ledger lines too.

You'll learn the names of the notes on Treble stave.

You'll learn the names of the notes on bass stave.

You'll learn how to memorize the names of all the notes.

You'll learn the value of the notes, such as 1 beat, 2 beats, 3 beat, etc...

You'll also learn the American or/and the British names for the notes.

Then you're going to relate the notes on the Treble stave with their respective keys on the keyboard by their names.

Then you're going to relate the notes on the Bass stave with their respective keys on the keyboard by their names.

If you don't remember the names of the notes, you won't be able to find their related keys on the keyboard.

If you don't even remember the names of the keys on the keyboard, of course you won't be able to find the related notes either.

Some people may begin to feel losing interest at this stage. Hope you're not.

In order to help you remember the names of the notes and the names of the keys, you're going to do some writing, reading and reciting. Hopefully, this won't kill your desire of learning to PLAY music.

No worries, there are a lot of exercises to help you achieve the above in your theory book.

You may also have a technical book with plenty of finger exercises to help developing your fingers strength.

No matter how, you've to successfully memorized the above names for the notes, names for the keyboard, the positions of the notes and the positions of the keys on the keyboard.

Because of the above reason, many choose to learn music by ear. But unfortunately, not everyone has that kind of ear. Only those with average and above hearing and listening ability can survive. Otherwise, back to reading notes or give up.

What's the ULTIMATE GOAL of learning music?

To PLAY music or to READ music? Of course is to Play music but NOTATION is the Teacher Tongue language for learning to play music. In order to learn Notation, READING was THOUGHT as the ONLY way, perhaps due to the limitation in pedagogical approach.

The problem started when the PRIORITY & EMPHASIS being SIDETRACKED from Playing Music to Reading Music. Sight Reading and Sight Singing were often the process before Sight Playing. Plenty of unnecessary subskills were added. From finger exercising to writing to drawing & drilling. The problem is getting worse because the Ultimate goal of Playing music is being pushed farther and farther.

The reality is many students took too many lessons only to struggle to memorize the names of the notes, the names of the keys, their relationship, which finger to use.... etc.

Some students don't like to read notes because the pace of learning to read in order to play music is just too long. To many students, especially the adults, it's a waste of time. In short, it's INEFFECTIVE.

This is undeniable fact, no matter how important notation is. A solution is needed, and it's long overdue.

If Musical Knowledge First, Know First, Understand First, Being Able to Describe First, became the conditions to Play Music, and all these conditions are deeply implanted in the teacher's mindset, MUSIC NOTE PHOBIA will be the results.

In early 90's, an approach that effectively solved this problem has already created. Absolute beginners were able to play Tuneful Melody by Sighting NOTES within 10 min. And learn to play several songs with left hand and right hand, by notes, play along with background music, all within 30min of the 1st Lesson. This approach is called Instant Method Visual Playing. It was kept in the Guinness World Records Facts File since 1993.

7 years later, in the year 2000, the same creator Raymond Wong broke his old record with an even More Effective solution. That's the NoteMaster Method.
